2022 Washington Truck Driving Championships

OLYMPIA – April 26, 2022 – The Washington Trucking Associations (WTA) Safety Management Council presents the 2022 Washington Truck Driving Championships (WATDC). The WATDC is an annual event that seeks to promote safety and professionalism among commercial drivers by demonstrating their skill as a professional truck driver. The championship showcases the “best of the best” professional drivers in the trucking industry. Drivers are tested on their ability to maneuver and control their vehicles under a number of difficult test situations. Winners of the state competition will go on to compete at a national competition to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana in August.

During the WATDC competition, each driver has a chance to demonstrate his or her driving and inspection skills, knowledge, and professionalism through a series of tests. The drivers undergo a written examination, pre-trip inspection test and finally, the most visible – the skills test. These annual competitions inspire tens of thousands of drivers to operate accident-free for the right to compete.

When asked, professional drivers will tell you that they are drawn to the Championships by the spirit of competition and by the prestige of being named the best of the best. It is described by drivers as being like the Olympics, where they come to win but revel in the camaraderie and excitement. In addition to First, Second and Third Place titles, drivers vie for the Rookie of the Year Award and the ultimate designation – The Grand Champion award.

The WTA’s competition will be held on Saturday, July 9th at the Ashley Furniture Homestore Distribution Center Lot at 3320 Lincoln Ave, Tacoma WA 98421.
