WTA Scholarship Program

The Washington Trucking Associations (WTA) Scholarship Program is designed to support individuals pursuing education and training that prepares them for careers in Washington’s trucking, transportation, and logistics industries. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, required fees, books, supplies, and other eligible educational expenses at an accredited college, university, community college, technical school, or approved vocational training program. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the educational institution or training provider the recipient attends.

Who May Apply

Applicants must have earned, or be on track to earn, a high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or equivalent credential. Applicants must be proficient in English, be legally authorized to work in the United States, and be eligible to obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver License (CDL), if the program of study requires one. Applicants must also be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, an accredited postsecondary institution or approved vocational training program that prepares students for careers in the trucking, transportation, or logistics industries.

Submissions

Applicants may submit an application for a Vocational Scholarship. Applications can be received throughout the year and will be reviewed on a quarterly basis.

Applicants may submit an application for either an Academic Scholarship or a Vocational Scholarship (depending on their educational goals), but not both. Applications can be received throughout the year and will be reviewed on a quarterly basis.

Scholarship Eligibility

Applicants must be proficient in English, be legally authorized to work in the United States, and be eligible to obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver License (CDL), if the program of study requires one. Applicants must also be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, an accredited postsecondary institution or approved vocational training program that prepares students for careers in the trucking, transportation, or logistics industries.

Selection Criteria

Applicant must include his/her work or academic achievements, education and career goals, demonstration of leadership, level of financial need, performance of community service, and employment record.

Applicants Must Submit

  • Vocational Scholarship Application, which must be fully completed and attached as the first page of the application package. (BE SURE TO LIST YOUR SPONSOR, MENTOR, OR PROFESSIONAL REFERENCE AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO YOU).
  • An essay, not exceeding 300 words, summarizing the questions asked on the application form.
  • Certified high school transcript from ninth grade to date of application, or certificate of completion of GED
  • Applicants must meet all Washington State and federal eligibility requirements for obtaining a Commercial Driver License, including applicable citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or other legal-status documentation requirements.
