WTA Celebrates National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Statewide events honor the dedicated service of drivers and their vital role in WA’s economy

OLYMPIA — Sept. 18. 2025 — Representatives from the Washington Trucking Associations (WTA) gathered across the state this week to recognize and thank the professional truck drivers who keep Washington state’s economy rolling. The events, part of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (Sept. 14-20), serve to highlight the essential contributions and dedication of drivers who navigate the roadways to deliver the goods that fuel everyday life in Washington.

The WTA hosted three statewide events this week in partnership with the Washington State Patrol, including driver appreciation BBQs, recognition ceremonies, and safety demonstrations aimed at highlighting the professionalism and commitment of the men and women behind the wheel.

“Truck drivers are the backbone of our supply chain,” said WTA President & CEO Sheri Call. “Their hard work ensures that store shelves are stocked, hospitals have life-saving supplies, and families receive everything they need – often under challenging conditions. This week, we honor their dedication and take a moment to reflect on the importance of all they do, and what they mean to the supply chain in our state.”

More than 700 lunches were served this week at WTA appreciation luncheons held at the Spokane Point of Entry in Liberty Lake; the Bow Hill Port of Entry in Bow (north of Burlington); and the Nisqually Weigh Station in DuPont. This year’s lunches were sponsored by T.E. Walrath Trucking, Inc., TEC Equipment, Inc., and PortPro Technologies, Inc. Additional financial support and materials were provided by IEDS Logistics and Norpass.

Trucking is a vital part of the economic supply chain in our state: Nearly 80 percent of communities in Washington state depend exclusively on trucks to move their goods.

“Without a doubt, truck drivers really are essential workers, transporting essential goods to every corner of Washington,” added Call. “We’re proud to host these events and honor their commitment to a profession that keeps our state moving forward.”

The WTA encourages everyone to take a moment to thank a truck driver this week and reflect on the critical role they play, not just during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, but every single day.
